About the Gurus

Late Smt Guru Jamuna Krishnan, was one of the most respected performers, teachers and scholars of Bharatanatyam, Jamuna brought to this art form her own unique sensibility and individuality, her niche remains adapting North Indian devotional and love poetry to the stringent Bharatnatyam dance technique.
She was recognised for her unparalleled contribution to the art, and was conferred with the most prestigious of awards like the ‘Parishad Samman’, ‘Natya Ratna ‘, Sangeet Nakat Akademi Puraskar’ , being some of them.
She passed away on 15th may 2019 , her untimely death was a huge set back for entire Kalagan team, her disciples and family. She is now lived by her daughter Ragini chandershekar who continues to teach and mentor the disciples just like guru ji.
Chandsi’s attachment to guru ji was incomparable and she had the most important place in her life. Nevertheless fighting and facing the oddest was also taught by guru ji. 8 years of unconditional love and teaching, mentor in true sense.
Guru ji is missed with every breath.


Ragini Chandrashekhar is ranked amongst the finest Bharatanatyam dancers in todays time.Trained by her mother and other masters, her dance glows with the rare magic of purity and adherence to the traditional forms.
Ragini has travelled the world to perform at the most prestigious platforms. She regularly performs for Spic Macay and is senior empanelled artiste with the ICCR. Her list of awards is endless, some being ‘ Ustad Bismillah khan Yuva puraskar’ and the 'Sangeet Natak Akademi Award'.
Chandsi is now under her tutelage and is very grateful to Ragini for imparting her knowledge , love and guidance . Ragini surely is filling her mothers shoes with perfection.
